Important Factors Influencing Political and Social Stability on the China-Vietnam Border
—In-depth Analysis of the Complex Religious Situation in the Northern Ethnic Region of Vietnam
Xu Zuxiang
Abstract: Since the modern times, the native religion in the northern ethnic region of Vietnam has gradually been joined by Catholicism and Evangelicalism, creating a regenerated religious situation where the exotic religion had a strong impact on the traditional religion. Under the joint influences of international political competition and imbalanced development between societies and nations, Catholicism and Evangelicalism developed rapidly, and the problem of underground church was prominent, causing the traditional religions to decline significantly. The religious problems resulting from imbalance in the religious development are often intertwined with ethnic issues, which leads to religious incidents. This trend has become an important factor in influencing the balanced development of religion and social stability around the border areas between China and its neighbors.
Keywords: Vietnam, northern ethnic region, religious environment, Confucianism, Evangelicalism
